hexrun
Run. Close the loop. Take the neighbourhood.
Your city is a map of hexagonal cells. Run back to where you started and the loop closes: every cell inside becomes yours. Your neighbours run too, so you keep running to hold your ground.
How it works
Three moves. All of them while running.
Everything happens through loops. A trace alone never changes the map; you have to get back to your start.
-
01
Run
Open the app and start a run. Your phone or watch records the trace; your start point is marked on the map with a triangle.
-
02
Close the loop
Come back within 50 metres of where you started. The loop closes there, and every return in the same run is a new loop. A cue like "85 m to go" guides you home.
-
03
Claim
Empty cells inside the loop become yours and your own cells get stronger. A rival's ground is taken through a duel.
Rules at a glance
An owner who runs as much as the rival never loses.
Power is counted per cell, duels per area. The rule set is short and the same for everyone.
-
Cells and power
The city is split into fixed hexagons of about 300 m² each. Every cell has one owner and a power of 0–100. An empty cell becomes yours at power 10; a loop around your own cells adds +10 (up to 2 loops a day count).
-
Duels
Pick 7–60 of a rival's cells and start a duel. Every loop around that area takes −10 off the duel's life, with up to 2 loops a day counting per duel. At zero the whole area is yours. The owner defends by looping it: life +20.
-
Decay
If the owner skips loops for 24 hours, the cell loses 5 power a day. If an attacker stays away for 48 hours, their progress drops by 10 a day. A reminder, not a punishment.
-
Rookie period
For your first 14 days, 3 loops a day count towards the same duel and short loops count too. That is how you make room in a crowded neighbourhood.
Events: each multiplier boosts a different move
- Daily · 06:00–09:00 Morning Advantage 2x Power gained by owners on their own cells
- Saturday–Sunday Weekend Blitz 2x Attack in duels
- Daily · 18:00–21:00 Evening Defence 1.5x Owners pushing attackers back
Multipliers never stack and apply wherever you run. Claiming empty cells has no multiplier. For runs imported from a watch, the multiplier follows the time the run actually happened.
Fair play and privacy
Your route is yours. The map only shows cells.
In a running game, location is the most sensitive data there is. HexRun is designed around that.
-
Routes
Only you see your loops
Nobody else sees your route, start point or run times; they only see the colour and power of cells.
-
Privacy zone
Around your home: "Hidden player"
Choose a 200–800 m zone around your home. Cells inside it never show your name or initials; the centre is randomly offset per account and the circle is never drawn for others.
-
Retention
Raw GPS for 30 days
Raw location points are kept for 30 days, then reduced to a list of cells. You can export your data or delete your account from the app.
-
Anti-cheat
Suspicious loops are held, not punished
If the pace is far beyond running pace or the GPS jumps, the loop goes to review. Your run and streak are saved; the map waits for the result.
-
Sharing
No map on the share card
The card shows only the silhouette of your cells and the m². No streets, no route, no rival names, and cells in your privacy zone are left out.
-
Accessibility
8 colour-blind-safe colours
Neighbouring territories are never drawn in two colours that can be confused. Colour never carries meaning alone: outlines, initials and hatching do too.
Watches and apps
Leave the phone at home. Close the loop anyway.
Runs from your watch or running app go through exactly the same rules and the same anti-cheat checks as runs recorded on the phone.

Teams and leagues
Your rivals are your neighbours on the map.
-
League
Starts in your neighbourhood
Leagues start local, with individual and team rankings, weekly and monthly. Your own row is always visible.
-
Team
Ranked by total m²
Teams are ranked by their members' combined territory. Defence is individual: teammates can't help in a duel and there is no home turf.
-
Friends
One reaction: applause
The friends feed is visible to friends only and times are rounded. No comments; you see who is besieging you and who is running right now.
Early access
Let's close the first loop together.
HexRun is coming to the App Store and Google Play. Leave your email and we'll tell you when it opens in your city.
FAQ
Frequently asked
When exactly does a loop close?
When you come back within 50 metres of where the run started. Every return to the start in the same run is a new loop. If you never close one, your run and streak are still saved; only the map stays the same.
Can other people see my route or my home?
No. Loops and routes are visible only to their owner; other players only see the colour and power of cells. Cells inside your privacy zone say "Hidden player" instead of your name.
Can I play by bike or car?
No. HexRun is for walking and running. Stretches far beyond running pace and GPS jumps send a loop to review. See the terms of use.
Can I run with just my watch?
Yes. A run from Garmin, Coros, Suunto, Polar, Apple Watch, Wear OS or Strava counts on the map if it arrives within 24 hours of finishing.
How does a rival take my cells, and how do I defend?
A rival starts a duel over an area of yours and lowers its life with loops around it. Every loop you run around your own area adds +20 life and pushes the attacker back. An owner who runs as much as the rival never loses.
Can my team help me in a duel?
No. Duels are individual. Teams compete in the league with their members' combined territory.
Which cities can I play in?
The map is a fixed hex grid covering the whole world, so you can play wherever you run. Leagues start local, so your first rivals are in your neighbourhood.
How do I delete my account and data?
In the app: Profile › Settings › Delete account. If you can't access the app, use the email route on the account deletion page.
